Attorney Cynthia Patton

Attorney Patton’s practice has focused on divorce and family law matters at non-profit and private law firms, and continued when she founded the Law Firm of Cynthia L. Patton PC in January, 2007.  She was recognized as one of Georgia’s Top Lawyers in 2009, is a Georgia Supreme Court Registered Neutral (mediator), has completed Guardian ad Litem required training, and taught the Family Law course in the Paralegal Program at North Metro Technical College.  In 2015, Attorney Patton launched Discerning Divorce, Inc., an affordable and accessible alternative to litigation-based divorce.

Admitted to Practice Law in Georgia and US Courts

Attorney Patton is admitted to practice law in the Superior Court of Georgia, Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court, US District Court (Northern District of Georgia) and US Court of Appeals (11th Circuit).  Her practice area primarily includes the metro-Atlanta and immediately surrounding area.

Education & Prior Business Experience

Attorney Patton earned her Juris Doctorate at the St. Louis University School of Law where she was a staff member of Saint Louis University Law Journal.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in communications & journalism at Kennesaw State University. 

Before law school, Attorney Patton held corporate-wide communications positions with the corporate headquarters & technology center of an Amoco Chemical Company subsidiary, gaining extensive business experience related not only to internal and external communications, but also identifying and developing new products, technologies and markets for the polystyrene foam industry.

Pre-law school experience also included working in local government (planning & urban development and neighborhood revitalization) and reporting for a Knight-Ridder newspaper.


Katherine “Katie” Crockett

Law Firm Office Manager, Paralegal, Docent

Katie has managed the offices of the Law Firm of Cynthia L. Patton PC since 2007, and has provided paralegal and supervisory services throughout her tenure.  In 2015, Katie also became Lead Docent for Discerning Divorce, Inc., bringing her considerable legal experience to guide clients successfully through the divorce education and mediation process.

Prior Legal & Business Experience

Katie gained experience as a paralegal for multiple divorce lawyers at small and large law firms.  Prior to entering the legal field, Katie was the Office Manager for a local residential and commercial energy conservation company, and worked with a national bank.
